Stephanie Downs–co-founder and president of FiXiT Foundation, a relatively new organization that aspires to help address pet overpopulation through a research project and inventive programs–discusses one of those: Get Your Fix, a nationwide program designed to assist needy “pet owners” in receiving funding to have their animals spayed or neutered.
Listen Online Now:
She explains that, built around a rapidly-expanding database, Get Your Fix allows “funders” to search for profiles of these needy pet owners in their geographical area (or using other criteria) and underwrite the procedure. Stephanie also notes that the money to get the animals fixed never goes directly from the funder to the pet owner, but either to Get Your Fix or to the spay/neuter facility performing the procedure. She discusses plans to develop Get Your Fix, including international expansion, and briefly touches on a research project, conducted in St. Croix under the auspices of the FiXiT Foundation, examining spay and neuter issues amidst a specific population in an island environment.
