I presented my Sorta Annual Christmas Animal Song special—that is, a show entirely devoted to Christmas-oriented animal songs.
Sure, as in the past, to pull off this conceit, I sprinkled the program with a liberal sprinkling of various versions of “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and variations thereof, including Keith Richards’ classic fiery take on “Run Rudolph Run.”
Thanks to guidance from WMNF Music Director Lee Courtney—Flee, though this time of year, he’s known as Flee Navidad–I also played some far less obvious nuggets and possible future classics. My favorites in that category this year include Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas’ bouncy “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas” and Launch Control’s punk-ish “The RSPCA Took My Reindeer Away.”
Extending an annual tradition, I also took a brief break from the animal songs to read what I refer to as the Dorothy Strauss Christmas Message.
