We reconfigured the format for today’s program, truncating the Comedy Corner, altogether jettisoning most other segments. These changes were implemented so as to create as much airtime as possible to speak with Scott Trebatoski, Director of The Pet Resources Division of Hillsborough County—the job that formerly carried the title Director of Animal Services—and for Trebatoski to respond to a wide array listener calls, emails and texts. Trebatoski discusses his history, his formative years, and how his educational focus was business, including obtaining an MBA, with an emphasis in human resources. He explains how his business background has shaped his policies and sensibilities working in the animal field: Before taking the Hillsborough County job, he headed Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (during his five-year tenure there, he notes, his live release rate moved from 17% to 87%), and before that spent six years as director of Lee County Animal Services. A little over a month into the new job, Trebatoski outlines what he considers to be the most pressing issues to address in order the make the Hillsborough County operation function better and restore trust across various constituencies. On a related note, he explains the rationale behind altering his job title from what had been called Director of Animal Services, to Director of The Pet Resources Division of Hillsborough.
