Jen Watkins and Patty Garvey-Darda–two members of the I-90 Wildlife Bridges Coalition, a group in Washington State that formed in reaction to plans to expand Interstate 90 for 15 miles in the Cascades Mountain Range, an area teeming with wildlife–discuss the Coalition’s efforts to ensure the highest standards of protection for that wildlife as the expansion is undertaken, explaining how the bridges they propose (which the array of species in that area would use to cross over the I-90, vs entering the Interstate itself) would reduce the roadkill to as little as zero, and noting how other states and countries have addressed similar challenges.
